Speaking in Thailand

Thailand is a beautiful and varied country and its people are warm and friendly. However, if you come from the west, like me, are some aspects of Thai life strange and some are confused. Not in a bad way, just different.

For example, when you speak English, Thai people seem to pr rarely interrupted by their words, you get the "how" to "home", "SKET" to "bin", "line" to "road". It 's very strange and annoying at first can, until you realize that the words in Thai languageonly with a six tones. The most common of these are 't, k, p, n', so if the word you want to use them do not have one of these letters, in the end, they left it out easy.

The letter "r" and "L" are unusual in Thailand. For starters, the word does not end in 'L' that is' a disgrace to the word "football as it is the most popular sport in Thailand (Thai boxing, or maybe I'm not sure). However, the word" football "in Thai, was adopted, similar to" duplex "was translated into English, say 'footbon'. However, there are worse problems with "l" and "r".

Some people have a problem with the "r" as the Japanese, but not so bad. I have never heard someone say, "Velly good," but I tried to listen to a man to show me once, and it was important to say loudly "Herro" for all of us. However, they have a word "Sri" as in "Sri Lanka" Some people find it easier to say. "Yes", others will say: "SLI". and others will say "Sri" When 'r' is the second consonant ismay be an "L" drop.

This is one reason why some talks with a Thai can be confusing and amusing (or frustrating, depending on aspect). Because, believe it or not, is not always obvious from the context. If someone is talking about "GAA", you can take a bit 'to see if it comes to "gas", "grass" or "glass" or "glasses" in glasses. I know I have hundreds of these conversations over the years had.

A culturalFunction, which can seriously affect a call in the face. Thais do not like to admit that they know not what they do not like to disappoint both. This can have unintended consequences, because you can talk to someone for a while 'before realizing that they have no idea what you're talking about. Despite the fact that they were smiling and nodding your show. If you do not want you to think that all too stupid to be understood, even if youis probably early enough to discover that their English proficiency is not quite what you had to believe.

These points are funny, maybe sometimes a little 'frustrating, but the worst is to ask for directions. This can be very, very frustrating. As a Thai admits he does not know what and why we do not want to disappoint you if you ask for directions and he did not know will smile and nod. If you try with the question "'here?" Helpand point. He will say yes.

He does not walk to have lost face and happy because you're happy. They leave happy and grateful, but you know where to walk. Thais do not, under any circumstances, ask the way of other Thai anywhere.
